Bass and Jug

Setup my favorite microphones (CAD M9, AKG 300B/CK-91) and started
banging on and old eathenware jug with the soft end of a pair of
Zyldjian Travis Barker drum sticks. Next, I moved my microphones to
focus them on my Fender Bassman 100 amp, and recorded the bassline.
It's the first time I've recorded bass this way (by mic'ing the amp,
instead of DI), and it sounds so much better this way. Anyway, I hope
you enjoy this clip, please leave a comment and let me know! Thanks!

Mount Holly Mushrooms

Odin and I had a great hike today at Mount Holly Sanctuary. There was a lot of cool fungi to spy, and a few frogs too. It was very dry there today. Drier than I had ever seen, but that was nice compared to the mud-fest it usually is. Many birds could be heard, including a raptor or two.

Water

We had a water main break in town today. It took the water department many hours to find it, hidden underground. They brought in a few tankers of potable water for us, which was nice. I went with my boys and picked up a few gallons. It was nice and cool. I snapped this picture with the intent on publishing it on bedford.patch.com. You can see it with an article here: http://bedford.patch.com/articles/boil-water-alert-issued-for-bedford-hills-and-katonah

By 21:30, we had decent pressure back, and they say it will be all fixed by morning.

Cardinal Hatchling

The weigela in front of our house is host to another cardinal nest this year. We are all hoping this one is not attacked by a raptor. Last year, what was likely a sharp shinned hawk, attacked the nest in the weigela and got away with one of the two young in the nest.

I saw it happen. The nest was destroyed. We found the other young bird nearby on the lawn. We attempted to put the nest back together so we could put the it back in the bush. But we were not successful. The parents we all a flutter around us. We decided to leave him in an open shoe box near the base of the weigela, and let the parents tend to it. It was fairly well along and likely not far from fledging, so maybe it survived.

Look for future posts as these young ones grow, and hopefully fledge successfully.
